A Voice For My Generation
Why I am running...
I am Camden Bedinghaus and I am a candidate for Manatee County School Board District 5.
Our education system has failed our students for far too long. It has failed us academically, economically and emotionally. This has resulted in my generation (GenZ) being the most confused, depressed and suicidal in American history. I have experienced these failures first hand.
I am running to ensure future generations avoid these failures.

To Accomplish This, We Need To Create A School System That...

Common Sense Academics
Illiteracy limits a child’s future, and too often it destroys it. Nearly half the students in our district cannot read at grade level. When a child cannot read, every subject becomes harder, confidence drops, and opportunities begin to disappear. Low literacy leads to long-term unemployment, and unemployed individuals are 60 to 80 percent more likely to die by suicide. The path from an unread page to a lost life is shorter than most realize. We must break that chain and restore hope at the foundation. That is why I will declare a Reading Emergency and make literacy the top priority in our schools.

Accountability & Transparency
Florida’s mandate is clear: reading, math, writing, and science. That should be the focus. Not political agendas or indoctrination. Let’s get back to the fundamentals that prepare kids for real life. Parents and teachers, the people closest to students, should decide what happens in the classroom....not distant bureaucrats or activists. Transparency is not a bonus feature. It is a requirement. Parents deserve clear access to what their children are being taught, how they are performing, and what is happening in their schools. That starts with a user-friendly parent portal.

Mastery of Real World Skills
Gen Z is drowning in debt. We are carrying record levels of personal debt, credit card delinquencies are rising, and most young people can barely afford rent — let alone a home. Too many run out of money before the month is over. That’s a serious problem. Schools should be teaching real world skills like personal finance, basic economics, budgeting, and practical life skills. If we want students prepared for the real world, we have to give them the tools to manage money, build stability, and create a future they can actually sustain. Let’s set them up for success. Now.
